Team Ninja has been around for a while, initially tasked with porting Tecmo’s Dead or Alive fighting games over to home consoles and going on to develop the popular Ninja Gaiden reboot series. More recently, Team Ninja has continued to work on Dead or Alive, as well as developing the popular Nioh series. Team Ninja’s latest game as of writing is Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins, which earned mixed reviews. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is Team Ninja’s next game, releasing on March 3rd, 2023.

There is a lot to unpack in the new trailer for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. The beautiful, lush scenery is starkly contrasted by some viciously dangerous enemies that have some surprisingly fast and lethal attacks. The game over screen is visible a few times through the course of the 10-minute long video, blazoned with the words “Crushing Defeat.” The video also showcases some exploration and platforming elements. A handful of weapons are showcased throughout the video, including a staff, a dual-wielded sword and dagger, as well as what appears to be some magic-based attacks towards the end.
Among the many Soulslike games that have released in recent history, Team Ninja’s offerings seem to stand out, with Nioh and its sequel highly regarded among fans of the genre. Wo Long undoubtedly seeks to continue the trend with its fast-paced combat and gorgeous setting of a fantastical version of the Three Kingdoms period. Wo Long appears to be linear for the most part, with many secrets hidden off the beaten path for players to discover.
With only a couple of months left until release, those interested in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty can likely expect more information in the buildup to release day. Wo Long is a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, which should please those who are subscribed to the service. Unfortunately, those who own PlayStations will not have the option of playing the game as part of a subscription service, but can at least rest easy knowing that the game is coming to their platform after initial doubts created when Wo Long was revealed at one of Microsoft’s events.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will release on March 3, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
