Since the showcase, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Team Ninja have been rather quiet. Outside confirmation it would follow a Soulslike gameplay style of hard challenges, seen in both Nioh and Bloodborne, no real gameplay has been shown. Despite this, Team Ninja did confirm some features coming to the game in a recent Twitter post, and it even confirmed the game will get a demo.

Some of these features are brand new reveals, including a character creator, a morale system, a game trial, and the inclusion of sorcery (at least this seems to imply players will be able to use sorceries in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty). Other mentions include weapons based on Chinese martial arts, the appearance of famous warlords from China’s Three Kingdoms era, and creatures from Chinese Mythology. Given that Wo Long is billed as following a militia soldier who is fighting for their survival during a demon plague set in the Three Kingdoms, where players must “overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within,” all of this fits the bill perfectly.

Perhaps the most interesting confirmation is the gameplay trial in the near future, especially since gameplay for Wo Long has yet to been fully shown. It’s a bold statement of Team Ninja’s confidence in the game if a gameplay trial were to soon follow a gameplay trailer. Of course, near future could mean anything here, but before the end of 2022 would seem reasonable based on the verbiage. After all, Wo Long is set to release in early 2023.

The best part is Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is one of the many games shown at the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase coming to Game Pass on day one, and that makes it all the more exciting. If fans enjoy the upcoming gameplay trial, that bodes well for its release as subscribers will be able to access it across all platforms.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty releases early 2023 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
