So when lead designer for The Witcher 3, Damien Monnier, left CD Projekt Red last month, many gamers were anxious to learn where he would land. That question has now been answered with Monnier joining Dying Light developer Techland.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Techland revealed Monnier will take a leading role in the new IP Techland announced back in May. The game, which is set to be an open-world fantasy game with RPG elements, will undoubtedly be well served with the lead designer from The Witcher 3 working behind the scenes.
Concerning the new addition to the team, Techland shared a brief statement about Monnier joining the team:
Techland has yet to reveal any specific details about the new game, which likely won’t see the light of day for many years yet, especially with Monnier just now coming on board. Some gamers have unsurprisingly speculated that it may have something to do within the world of Dying Light, considering the success that game experienced when it released early last year. That said, Techland shared in May that it was working on two titles, so assuming one is Dying Light 2, the other, which would be the new IP, could very well be a completely new idea. Again, that’s all speculation until Techland decides to share what it’s working on.
Prior to leaving CD Projekt Red, Monnier spent four years on The Witcher 3, and was hard at work on Gwent when he left. Prior to his stint at CD Projekt Red, Monnier worked at Sony’s Evolution Studios, working on MotorStorm and DriveClub.
According to CD Projekt Red, Monnier’s departure was a mutual decision by both parties. Monnier publicly thanked The Witcher 3 developer when he left, which corroborates this sentiment. Fortunately for Dying Light fans, Techland will benefit from Monnier’s addition and can look forward to whatever the developer has in store when the new IP is released.
